Burt Lo
California DEN

Despite being technologically deprived as a youth, and limited to a Commodore Vic 20 through high school, Burt Lo has become an educator-on-loan with the California Technology Assistance Project Region 6 . During his three years with CTAP 6, he has been responsible for helping school districts to implement their Enhancing Education Through Technology - Competitive Grants by providing staff development training in educational technology. This job opportunity has given Burt time to develop his own technology skills and he feels he has benefited greatly from his involvement in these EETT-C grant projects. In fact, it was through an EETT-C grant that uses unitedstreaming as one of its educational tools that he became familiar with the versatility of digital media.
Prior to his work as an educator-on-loan, Burt taught at Salida Middle School in a variety of settings: 6th grade multiple subject; 7th grade English-Language Arts; 7th grade pre-algebra; and 7th and 8th grade computer elective. Burt explains, “My greatest joy as a teacher was watching the creativity of my students as they harnessed the Excel, PowerPoint, and even HyperStudio skills I taught them. They created projects that I couldn't even begin to imagine.” In order to keep up with his students, he spent his time outside of the classroom obtaining a Masters Degree (with an emphasis in Information Technology) and is currently President of Central California Computer Using Educators . Burt concludes, “Most recently, I was fortunate enough to experience learning DEN-style at the West Coast Regional DEN Institute in San Diego.”
