Linda Bowers, a content-area specialist for Houston ISD's North Region, has won the Texas Computer Education Association's Administrator of the Year Award. Founded in 1980 and the largest educational-technology association in the nation, the TCEA is dedicated to the improvement of teaching and learning through the use of computer technology. The award is presented annually to an administrator who recognizes the importance of technology in the teaching and learning process and actively promotes the use of technology in her school or school district.

Bowers, not only supervises and trains teachers at five schools in the North Region, she also spearheaded the HISD North Region Digital Publishing Fair and coordinated multimedia workshops to train teachers to prepare their students for developing entries for this Fair. She has created and maintains the HISD North Region website for information and ease of use. She has also leads feeder-pattern meetings where technology teachers at all levels of the North Region's 64 schools collaborate and share ideas, questions, and concerns.

Unitedstreaming has been a valuable resource for students developing products of their knowledge for the Digital Publishing Fair. The Digital Publishing Fair encourages students to use technology to communicate, write effectively, and enhance research and storytelling skills. The students excitedly publish work demonstrating their knowledge about a multitude of topics they have learned in school using a variety of media. This process meets the state objectives while students develop skills to help prepare for the rigorous expectations of college. Teachers often tell her that Unitedstreaming helps them teach abstract concepts. During the summer of ‘05 over 100 elementary teachers of science attended training for a NSF grant in which Bowers redesigned the curriculum to infuse technology. Most of those teachers are avidly utilizing Unitedstreaming to develop teaching materials. “For these reasons I am passionate about promoting use of such a high quality product.”
