Teryl Magee
Tennessee Leadership Council Chair

Teryl Magee is from Maryville, Tennessee and a Tennessee STAR Discovery Educator. She has been involved in her teaching career for eight years and has her Masters Degree from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Teryl currently teaches fourth grade at Dogwood Elementary in Knox County in Knox County. Among her other “hats” are PTO Board Secretary, Honors Coordinator, Student Incentives Coordinator, New Teacher Mentor, School Advisory Board Member, and Fantasy of Trees Coordinator.
Creativity in learningis am important part of her daily classroom practices, and she feels that by bringing technology into the classroom she’s catering to the needs of her class, thus keeping their interests. She sees technology as a way to teach, integrating it into the core curriculum standards, not as an additional “subject.” The Discovery Educator Network has expanded her repertoire of teaching strategies, and has led Teryl to try many new strategies in the classroom that would have otherwise been only a dream.
Teryl remains very active in the DEN community. Her journey began at the TAMS conference that was held in Cleveland, Tennessee last fall, and she is now the Chair of the Tennessee Leadership Council. She is active in the DEN on-line community by hosting her personal blog and participated in the DEN Earth and Space Project. This summer she has attended the DEN preconfernce event to NECC at Stone Mountain, spent Monday at NECC exploring the exhibits, and attended the DEN dinner at Azios in Atlanta. In addition, Teryl, along with her Tennessee Leadership Council members, sponsored a Day of Discovery for teachers from East Tennessee. She will be participating in the DEN Florida Institute.
