Rubrics To Enhance Student Learning

What is the value of using a rubric to enhance student learning? I will admit that I thought rubrics were just another bit of the endless paperwork that collects on my desk and floats through each student's binder. Was I ever "Schrocked" !

What I discovered was creating and explaining the rubric makes grading easier for both student and teacher. Kathy Schrock's Rubrics and Assessment in Discovery Education is packed with rubrics for almost any activity. From Student Collaboration Rubrics to Virtual Simulation Rubrics--there are examples for everything.

Using rubrics from Discovery Education and Kathy Schrock's link has made a positive impact on the quality of student work. When the students are empowered to grade their own work with a rubric--they have a better understanding of the essential curricular component being assessed.

Sharing this DE resource with my team of teachers has proven a valuable assest in both student engagement as well as student learning. Many thanks to Kathy Schrock for her pre-made rubrics and links to rubric making sites.

On the DE homepage there

On the DE homepage there is a link to Additional Resources (PuzzleMaker, clip art, Kathy Schrock) at the bottom of the page. Click on it, then click on Kathy Schrock, and find Teacher's Helpers, and the assessment/rubrics under that heading. I'll put the address/link below.

Thanks for sharing your find! We use rubrics whenever possible at my school because it ensures that students (and parents) are aware of the expectations of the assignment. When students receive their grades they are less disputable because they were aware of the expectations and they can see where their points were deducted. Again, thanks for sharing!
