When using the forums, there's a key difference between Topics and Replies.
A topic is a new conversation. In every forum (for instance Web2.0) there can be multiple conversations happening at the same time. So one person might start a thread on "Podcasting using Windows" while somebody else might start a thread on "Allowing people to subscribe to a blog via email." Anybody who is interested in those conversations, would click on them and then reply to them.
New topics are listed whenever somebody enters a forum. Replies only appear when someone clicks on that specific topic.
So if you have a new conversation to start, make sure you click on "Post new forum topic". If you list it as a reply, then nobody will know it's there!
