Cables/Wires

Good Morning!  I have begun to reflect on how better to use DE streaming in my classroom.  Particularly I am looking for a cable or connector that will allow me to connect my computer to the television within my room.  I began searching before the end of school, but apparently not giving the proper description because I still don't have the proper cable/connector.

If anyone knows what it's called or a retailer that would have what I need I'd appreciate any information.

Also, I just completed a Teacher's summer institute where I had the opportunity to use an IPOD mobile station to listen to information about different locales.  Can DE streaming be put on IPOD's so that more than one child could use it and ultimately would allow me to differentiate instruction?

Thanks, Greer Winslow-Carter

In our building, we use an AVerKey to connect the teacher computer in the classroom to a TV. We have PCs in our school.  I don't know if you have a PC or a Mac, but there are several types of AVerKeys available. The average cost is around $159.00. You can find out about them through a Google search.

Another way to project streaming videos is to use a laptop and a projector.  Our school library has several carts with a laptop ,and projector and speakers already assembled so that teachers can wheel them to their classrooms for use with streaming videos.

Good luck.  I hope this information is useful to you.

Hal Davidson gave a great presentation on using iPods for videos from Discovery.  It definately is possible. Since I haven't used it, I would have to refer back to my notes.  I believe you download the video and send it to iTunes.  You then change it to a MP4 format that you can then upload into your iPod.

What kind of an iPod do you have?  I have a classic.  I tried putting videos on my iPod but kept getting a message that I could not do it.  Has anyone been successful?  Do I need to buy Quicktime Pro?

Thank you

Connecting your computer to a TV may be more than just a cable. IF you have video out on your computer (and most newer laptops do - Mac or PC, btw?), it's just a matter of an S-video cable (providied your TV has that input) and a mini to RCA for sound. No video out on your computer (Mac laptops can get a dongle for <$20) and you'll need a scan converter box (probably $100-$200). 'streaming on the iPod is a big 10-4! I'll see Hall Davidson this week. Keep on me (jbtv@mac.com) and I'll found out where those handouts are online.
