This is a broad and general question, so expect the response to be generalizations. Real life math applications come from everyday activities. For instance, we have a checking account so we must +/- and also calculate compound interest. We have schedules so we measure time in intervals. We walk so we can measure distance. Each step can be about a yard (if your tall). So, look for applications of your lesson plan in everyday activities.

How do you make certain that students understand that the math you are teching is relevant to their lives?
