most teacher and student friendly blog site

Steve-

how r ya, anyhoo???

my district IT "guru" says the ONLY DISTRICT APPROVED way to blog, with their control, is through our school server webpages.

YUCKO!!!!

so, hypothetically, if i were to go off the grid, which is the friendliest to use, easiest access? and i do NOT mind paying for it.

regardless, my kids will not be able to access while at school, hence (the dilemma)- and the wish NOT to be supervised or told what i can and cannot put on there, well, that's all me, and my own issue with authority figure...no therapy needed, i accept it.

only child syndrome (i;m guessing)

Our county allows us to use

Our county allows us to use www.gaggle.net and http://edublogs.org/ for free controlled blogging options.  Not sure of the easiest one though.

thanks for your info, that's

thanks for your info, that's what i found at a state conference in Tucson in late January.

my disrict however, as many others may be, wants to control EVERYTHING!

and so during our statewide testing next week, i'll see if we have access through the district computers- i do not have a lot of faith.

but thanks for confirming the 2 i will try.

My county recommends using

My county recommends using blogger.com.  They do workshops to set accounts up for teachers and students.  When I use it with my students, I have them click on the name/url and put in their first name since no emails are needed.  I have 3rd and 4th graders that post at home and at school.

You could also look at doing a wiki. PBWIKI has ways to allow educators to set up student accounts that can be accessed.

Good luck!

I have always used Blogger

I have always used Blogger for http://mrlosik.blogspot.com It comes from Google and so it has had a lot of inovative features added in the 3 years I have been working with it. I find it more intuitive and responsive than the work I have done with edublogs.

I just spent about 1 1/2

I just spent about 1 1/2 hours getting "buried" within your blogspot.  I was in so deep, I almost couldn't find you to thank you.  Great job putting this together and sharing.  My 4th graders will enjoy the map activities and the Library Game.  Also, congratulations for becoming a Google Certified Teacher.  I have been trying to get into Google Academy for two years now but here in NY, there are hundreds of applications for each session.  Maybe some day!  Thanks again. I will be spending more time on your sight!

If you are feeling ambitious

If you are feeling ambitious you might consider Ning.com. It does have a learning curve, but it is extremely powerful to use and has lots of advantages over a simple blog.

Classblogmeister is

Classblogmeister is extremely easy to use, very affordable (FREE) and total teacher control is possible. My district allows very little but they do allow this.

www.clairvoy.com is what

www.clairvoy.com is what many use in my district.  It's for teachers trading strategy.  No little 22 year olds in black turtle necks sending snarky messages if you are trying to figure out what you are doing.  Has blogging discussions and  a lot of "how to" videos.Very teacher friendly.  Not really for student blogs.

Does anyone know if there is

Does anyone know if there is a standard by which districts block the use of blogs or websites, or does it come down to the individual district's IT director?

Thanks

If you don't mind paying for

If you don't mind paying for it. I would go with WordPress and then buy a domain and server space with GoDaddy.com. it will cost you around 50 bucks a year but I think it's the best.

Guess this is old now, but

Guess this is old now, but Edublogs is the best free site (though it only offers 25 MB). You can pay like $6 a month for 5 GB, I think. With more money, I'd do Word Press too, but that's what Edublogs operates on.

Our district has opened

Our district has opened ClassChatter.com for student use. The teacher controls who gets in and monitors what the kids are saying. We find it is a good way to get kids started with blogging, teaching them how to be responsible and respectful before launching them into something open on the web.

epals.com  It's the BEST. I

epals.com

It's the BEST. I worked an entire school year getting this approved by my county. TOTALLY student safe. NOBODY can post anything unless it's approved by the moderator (which is you)  making it student safe.

 plus it's FREE! :-)
