Are there other teachers who are using Skype video conferencing in their classrooms? I have recently started to develop a network of teachers doing this, and I am looking to expand this as wide as I can.

I would love to hear more about your network. We do a lot of Polycom sessions...not as much w/Skype, but would like to do more. You can e-mail me at mageet1@k12tn.netThanks!Teryl TN DEN LC
I too would be interested in any information you compile about using Skype. Alan November was just discussing the plus side of using Skype with students. Technology leaders in our district were just discussing this after the workshop at Tech Expo '08. nredtech@gmail.com
I actually use Skpe on daily basis with another STAR member to communicate with our classes. We presented at the annual PETE & C conference last month. I have a wiki set up for connecting people in the state but would love to see it grow national with many teachers registrating. You can find it at http://petecskypeme.pbwiki.com/.
Because of a project my students were invloved with for thecounty, we needed to do a videoconference. Unfortunately we were unable to use the district's technology. But, fortunately, we turned to Skype and it worked well! I would LOVE to find a way to use Skype with other teachers/educators! I teach 6th grade Language Arts (this year). If anyone wants to Skype me... Krista.Hanna .
Hello Krista Hanna,
Are you the one and same who taught 8th grade LA at Desert Mountain in Phoenix, AZ? If so, you might remember me, I am Alison Oswald (now Alison Oswald-Keene) and was the 7th grade teacher at DMMS. That was the year you went to Australia for
New Years. We are doing a lot with Tech in the district and we have a couple of teachers at my new campus who use SKYPE. Would love to try to set up something with your kids.
my skype address is: keene.science
let me know.
Alison
Alison! I'm not sure if you ever got my return Skype message or not. But, YES! It's me!!! It is SO good to hear from you! I think often of everyone at DM.
I will try to contact you via email, and perhaps we can set something up for next year. I know you're out of school... we go until Tuesday... but we don't start again until September 8.
Take care!
Krista

Check out eduwiki.us. We are a community of PA educators (mostly) but it's growing in numbers. There you will find a number of us using skype. My district blocks it because of it's supernode capabilities (and P2P), but we found a work around to protect our network from the dangers of skype. WE will be tsting it soon. Go to the Who's Who page on Eduwiki for a list of us, and come join the space and join in on the fun!
I would like to Skype with AP students from anywhere across the country. I would think of these students as peer tutors. It can be done within the classroom, or be on call during a study hall . Something like a Skype Homework Hotline. Contact me at standhartt@schenectady.k12.y.us
Fellow teachers who are interested in Skype. I am working on a wiki with a friend of mine who is a STAR member to create a wiki that is publically editable. The address is http://skypeclass.pbwiki.com.
I will being contacting those of you who have left e-mail adressess on here shortly. I am currently trying to finish grades and conferences.
I'm interested. I have a large Arts Festival coming up in May. I'd love to use skype to connect my students k-8 with students any where but here ( Washington, DC suburb).
Maybe by reciting a poem or singing a song. I am looking for some cultural exchange. Any one interested?
I'm interested. I'm planning to take my kids/second graders from Memphis along with a few other grades/classes to a African cultural awareness festival in April. I'm not familar with skype, but I'm willing to investigate it in order to share with you.
Hello, my name is Martha Lackey and I teach 1st grade in Midlothian, Tx. and would love to skype with other 1st graders across the US. We had our 1st skype with 7th graders from a Texas History class within our district. It was a great experience and would love to skype the remainder of the year. You can reach me at my email address: Martha_Lackey@midlothian -isd.net or post here as a reply.
I actually have all the teachers I work with in core areas using Skype. There is another program which allows for up to 6 users to conference at once called ooVoo. Link:
It is not as widely known as Skype but has the same functions and a couple more advantages. Give it a try you might like it.
I work in Jefferson Parish -- Louisiana -- and we are going to be training teachers during the summer on Web 2.0 tools (podcasting, blogging, Skype) I'm sure that we'll be looking for others to communicate with during the year. Please let me know if you'd be interested in collaborating with teachers in our district.
We will be doing the same thing in our district this summer and several of us have skype accounts that would love to skype with your teachers in the district. Our training will be the 2nd week of June and then we will train our teachers at various campus technology camps. You can reply here to me to keep in touch.
Want to use Skype, but... I'm hitting the proverbial brick wall. I am an instructional tech coordinator. I have tried Skype and ooVoo, and I like both. I want to show teachers and implement it in some classrooms, but I'm running into some obstacles. One of our techs swears students can cheat too easily if they have Skype loaded on their computers. They already have IM programs loaded and many carry their iTouches and cell phones to school, so I'm not sure what the issue is. How are you addressing the "cheating issue" in your district?
Just wondering how you all are getting permission from your districts to use skype in your classrooms?! My district is super protective (as it should be) of student security and we are prohibited from using skype in the classroom or with students at all.
I have used Skype with health classes. I arranged medical students to Skype with my 7th grade students who researched a disease and developed interview questions. The med students volunteered their time to answer questions via Skype. it was great!
Hi, I am also trying to located teachers to collaborate with on Skype. I have used Skype in the classroom for the last three years and would love more connections. Please email me if you have any interest in connecting classes. I work at two elementary schools and have plenty of teachers who I can get to join. ccote@westwood.k12.ma.us
I am a semi retired district tech coordinator. I now work with all of our schools (4) in a small district in Kentucky primarily with tech integration. I would love to facilitate some SKYPE activities or video conferencing with a Polycom sytem with students there ? We are out of school as of today but am already looking forward to next year.
I'm a second grade teacher in New York and have been using Skype in the clasroom for 2 years now. I would love to be able to connect with other teachers around the country or world who are also using Skype. My email address is msantiago@westburyschools.org
I'm a first grade teacher in Midlothian, Tx and would love to skype with your second graders. My email address is Martha_Lackey@midlothian-isd.netPlease email me or post a reply here!
I joined an online project using Skype called Around the World in 80 Schools in which the organizer put out a call for schools around the Globe who wanted to participate. She set up a plan format and invited anyone interested to contact someone else on her list. Her after school tech club even met on a Sunday evening to Skype with schools on the other side of the globe.
The links gives more details, and other teacher's contact info that might be interested in sharing.
