Introducing myself

Hi, my name is Gina and I am a substitute teacher in Gwinnett County, Georgia, in the north Atlanta suburbs. My children attend the school where I substitute teach. Gwinnett County is the largest school district in Georgia and continually growing. I am a "career switcher." After spending about 20 years in news and public relations, I am now attending a local university where I am working on my teaching certificate. I would like some advice on how to best use this site to have some fun activities as "fillers" if I have time I need to fill when I substitute teach. I would love to hear your suggestions. I have already viewed some of the Biomes video. My son had a biomes project last year. If I had known then what I know now, I could have helped him more!

Hello, Gina!

I'm not too far away over here in South Carolina. United Streaming is such a great resource, and one I have used "religiously" since our school district introduced it.

The DEN is a great way to collaborate with educators all over the US, as well as within your local community. It's a great place to look for tips and tricks, as well as share your own.

I started using the streaming videos in my classroom by just viewing them with my students via Media Player, then graduated to short clips in PPT presentations, and eventually integrating them into SMARTboard lessons through SMART's Video Player. And I'll admit... I've logged into the site at home to let my daughter watch Jeff Corwin!!!
