Special Needs

I am exploring a variety of assistive technology tools for secondary students.

I am always looking for easy text-to-speech programs.

Any suggestions?

but another good one is read and write gold.

Hi Vicky,

My name is Barbara.  I teach special needs k-5.  One of the programs I use is www.starfall.com.  You can also make books from PowerPoint and use Power Talk (a free download) to have it read the power point to the kids.

Hi Allyna,

Where can I find Power Talk (free download), I've checked on Miscrosoft.com but I'm unable to locate.

Hi Barbara,

Thank you so much. I do have students using Powerpoint with PowerTalk-it is working great. I have a student with TBI who is working on a public speaking goal-she has her life story on the Powerpoint, it has Powertalk. After the presentation, she uses her own speech to answer audience questions.

I so appreciate any ideas. I have been using Micrsoft Reader with a plug-in.

Hi Vickie...I actually just did a presentation in Second Life at the Dreams Fair on Free Literacy Solutions.  Check out my slideshare at http://slideshare.net/agapejen.  Let me know if you have questions.
