A Problem of the Week in my math class gives me a chance to see how students apply what they're learning to word problems. Here is a word problem that I've enhanced with a unitedstreaming image. One morning a cricket fell into a well 2 meters deep. He climbs up 50 centimeters every day but at night he slides back down 25 centimeters. At this rate, how many days until the cricket gets out of the well? The attachment is a printout of the word problem, and here is a link to the one I created with unitedstreaming's Writing Prompt Builder, http://www.unitedstreaming.com/studentCenter/index.cfm?cdCode=W1788-9C3E (submitted by Burt Lo, a Northern California DEN Member) Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Word Problem

How can we use functions to describe real life situations? How do our dialects affect our way of life? Radio announcers must time their speech so that commercials and news updates are played at the correct length. Advertising is purchased by the seconds or minutes. Do you know how fast you talk? How fast do your friends talk? This is a great unit that looks at the use of functions in everyday life. Functions Math
